I bought a Citizen Watch from their site, only to find out a few days later that it was actually shop-soiled and had a strap that was cosmetically damaged and couldn’t be swapped out. They told me I had paid below the window price and asked if I wanted to keep this item.

I paid the full price listed on the website, so what does it matter if it was cheaper in-store? I’m an online shopper, and it feels like the distance selling regulations are being overlooked. There was no mention of the condition on the site. They pointed me to their terms and conditions, which state that items aren’t guaranteed to be free from shop-soiling, but those same terms claim that everything is New and Unused, so I’m left confused about what they mean. Their sales tactics seem pretty shady. It was an easy choice to cancel my order and buy from another place.

That evening, I discovered they had actually refunded my credit card a few days earlier, and the next day, I was informed that Seiko had identified a fault and that I had been reimbursed. My low rating isn’t because the watch was defective—presumably not their fault—and they did refund the full amount as promised. The issue lies in their lack of communication. I had to keep chasing them for updates, and not once did they reach out to inform me about the situation or that a fault had been discovered. When they did respond, they were clear and helpful, but I expected way more in terms of keeping me in the loop.
